New Patients

If you are a new patient you will be invited to arrive 10 minutes before your appointment to register with the practice.  To fast-track this stage, our registration form can be completed before arrival.  To do this you can either request a form and we can post it out for you, or you can fill in the relevant form here.

Please bring any glasses you are wearing at the moment.  If you are a contact lens wearer, it’s really helpful if you can come in wearing your lenses and bring a sample of the packaging so we know exactly what you are using.

If you have been seen by any ophthalmologists in the past, it's really helpful if you can bring in your last letter you received.  Otherwise if you know you have any eye health related problems please let us know so we can get the relevant information from your previous optometrists.

The Exam

A typical eye exam lasts between 40 - 60 minutes depending on age, family history and use of contact lenses. We prioritise patient comfort and care, so examinations are conducted in a spacious, air-conditioned consulting room offering complete privacy. During an eye examination your optometrist will fully assess the quality of your vision and will discuss the appropriate forms of correction, if required, encompassing a multitude of spectacle lens and contact lens options.

We will also do a thorough check of the health of your eyes.  Optik Eyecare has invested in the latest
clinical technology to provide the highest standard of eye care.  We have Matrix and Medmont visual field testers to check the peripheral vision for any changes due to glaucoma, retinal disease or strokes. We routinely use retinal cameras to help screen for eye diseases and for eye changes associated with systemic conditions like diabetes.  If the optometrist has any concerns about the health of your retina they may recommend an OCT scan this helps detect changes below the surface of the retina, such as can be found in diabetic eye disease or macula degeneration.
